Gardens of Ireland 2010 Itinerary
with Marty Wingate

June 24 (departing)-July 5, 2010

Ilnacullin

Optional England extension: July 5-8

Here's our route in brief, with more details to follow:

June 25, arrive Dublin a.m., travel by bus to Kilkenny for two nights, with our opening reception and dinner the first night.

June 26, we'll tour two local gardens with the head gardeners.

June 27, travel by coach to the County Clare fishing village of Ballyvaughan (www.ballyvaughanireland.com) for two nights, stopping on the way at Birr Castle Demense (www.birrcastle.com).

June 28, a tour of the Burren, a most unusual natural area of limestone "pavements" (www.burrenpage.com).

June 29, leave Ballyvaughan for Kenmare (three nights); touring Muckross House and grounds (www.muckross-house.ie/intro.htm).

June 30, we'll spend a leisurely day traveling to Ballymaloe (www.cookingisfun.ie) near Shanagarry, County Cork, with time for the garden tour at the school, plus lunch and shopping at the hotel.

July 1, it's Ilnacullin on Garinish Island – a short boat trip taken from the village of Glengarriff (www.glengarriff.ie), which celebrates its centenary next year, the folks at the local tourist office told me.

July 2, we head for Dublin. We'll be dropped off in Killarney for a little free time, then the three-hour train trip to Dublin while our bags stay on the bus for the five-hour journey. I think we get the better deal.

July 3, we'll have a tour of Helen Dillon's garden, see the city and take in a matinee of whatever is on at the Abbey Theatre (www.abbeytheatre.ie).

July 4, three private gardens and our farewell dinner in the evening.

June 5, continue to London for the England extension or head for home.
