Seasonal Schedule

Are you looking for a speaker for your garden club or professional organization? I love talking gardening — send me an e-mail: marty@martywingate.com.

Small gardens are - still - in, and on Saturday, April 17 at 10:30- noon, I'll talk about the small spaces on decks and patios at the Bellevue Demonstration Garden.
It's free!

On Saturday, April 24, it's All About Perennials at McComb Gardens in Sequim. Enjoy a day on the sunny Olympic Peninsula at this free seminar - and enjoy the nursery, too.

Let me give you personal plant-selection tips at the Arboretum Foundation's Florabundance member pre-sale and party on Friday, April 23, 5:30-8:30. Tickets are $20 and include wine and finger foods.

For the MG plant sale bit, please add: Here's another chance to drink wine and buy plants - the preview party Friday, April 30, 5:30-7:30.

This spring I'll also be speaking to the Trilogy Garden Club and attending the Seattle Children's Playgarden auction. Find out how you can help build a garden for all!

The Master Gardener Foundation of King County holds its fabulous plant sale on May 1 and 2. I'll be there Saturday, May 1 to talk about small-space gardening and the great things you can do. More details to come.

Sally Field – Gardener and Actress

I had great fun interviewing Sally Field about her love of gardening (the article appeared in the P-I Feb. 14; read it here), and if that wasn’t enough, I got to appear on stage with her at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show, Feb. 23, where we talked about Gardening for Good Health.

Sally gardens in the Malibu hills of Southern California, a much tougher place than Seattle, but we share some of the same fondness for plants, such as Ceanothus and California poppies. I passed along a book recommendation (Designing With Succulents, Debra Lee Baldwin, Timber Press, 2007) and the name of a great mail-order nursery — Annie’s Annuals.
